OUR STORY, OUR INSPIRATION
I heard about ABF - Wenches in Trenches 21 mile walk in the Somme and something pulled at my heart strings, not only am I married to a soldier who is currently in Afghanistan but my Grandfather fought in the Great War (his picture is in our gallery), already a soldier who had served 7 yrs for his country, nothing could have changed his life more than his experiences during WW1. He died at 44, the result of gased raked lungs and what we now know is PTSD. I very recently found my Great Uncle who lost his life in France during this conflict. I felt compelled to make ABF -The Soldiers Charity and Wenches In Trenches my mission.
As I set about the task of asking for sponsorship my friends and work pals would not let me walk this road alone. Also wives of soldiers, with all their hearts they turned my one into a Team. Sarah, Mandy, Fran & I became the 7th Armoured Brigade - Wenches. We are all 'Wenches' who have busy lives, work, children, homes and absent husbands but Bless My Team of four they are champions who have found the enthusiasm, energy and time to fundraise for this worth cause.
A WORD OF THANKS... We would also like to thank the amazing soldiers at HQ 7th Armoured Brigade who have given us their blessing to walk under the banner of the 7th Armoured Brigade.
So... Please help us to achieve our target of £2,000, your genourous donations will help us to do them proud.
Regards Fiona, Sarah, Mandy & Fran

INFORMATION ABOUT THE WALK
Following the frontline held by British troops in World War I, the walk starts in the town of Albert and the ladies will call at British cemeteries and memorials along the route to lay poppy crosses and honour our heroes from that era.
The walk ends with a short ceremony at The Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme, a major war memorial to the 72,195 missing British and Commonwealth men who died in the Battle of the Somme and who have no known grave. Cpl Andy Reid who was severely injured in Afghanistan in 2009 and as a result is a triple amputee will lay a wreath at the final memorial for us.
Over half of the walkers are ladies from army camps in Germany (thats us soldiers wives based in Germany) who want to do something worthwhile for the charity. The walk will be led by new Forces Sweetheart drag artiste Miss Cookie Monstar, who will not only lead the walkers but also provide entertainment in the evening as we camp army style on the Somme.
By walking this route, the ladies will be truly bringing history to life. Many of the walkers are wives and mothers of serving soldiers some injured or killed in the current conflict, so please support this wonderful walk and this amazing charity. ABF The Soldiers’ Charity.
