Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On 4th April 2022 I will start 70 consecutive 70.3 mile triathlons in 70 days. If successful I will achieve my goal of TWO GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS – most consecutive number of 113km triathlons (male) AND the most 113km triathlons done in a year (male).

70 x 70mile triathlons in 70 days a huge physical and mental endurance challenge that will see me swim, ride and run 5000miles in 70 days, the distance from London to China. It is going to take, a huge amount of mental resilience to repeat the same long triathlon day in day out, to keeping going when your body hurts, your equipment breaks down, the weather turns bad, or when you realise you are behind on your target, is not easy.

Those of you who know me are aware of my on-going focus on the importance of mental health having previously battled mental health issues myself and addiction.

I'm proud that I am now 6 years sober and I'm hoping to be able to raise as much money as possible for these important mental health, addiction and alcohol charities to help more people that were in my situation. AA have been a fundamental part of my recovery from alcohol addiction so I would like to raise money for a charity that supports the AA principles and help others.

Alcohol is a part of many of our lives. We use it for celebration, for comfort, to socialise, to wind down, to cope. We treat it differently to other drugs; it’s legal, socially acceptable, even encouraged.

Yet in the UK one person every hour dies as a result of alcohol. Alcohol harm – mental health problems, liver disease, one of seven forms of cancer, economic difficulties, and so much more – can affect any one of us, from any walk of life.

The harm doesn’t end with the individual; each of us who drinks too much is part of a family and a community who feel the effects too, whether through frequent use of emergency services, drink driving, violence or neglect.

We are Alcohol Change UK. We work for a society that is free from the harm caused by alcohol.

We are not anti-alcohol; we are for alcohol change. We are for a future in which people drink as a conscious choice, not a default; where the issues which lead to alcohol problems – like poverty, mental health issues, homelessness – are addressed; where those of us who drink too much, and our loved ones, have access to high-quality support whenever we need it, without shame or stigma.

The problem is complex, and so the solutions aren’t simple. But we’re ambitious. Driven by our belief that every person deserves to live a full life free from alcohol harm, we create evidence-driven change by working towards five key changes: improved knowledge, better policies and regulation, shifted cultural norms, improved drinking behaviours, and more and better support and treatment.

I am also supporting:

* MIND - the national Mental Health charity

* Humankind - a national mental health, addiction and social charity that finances local services like STARS (Stafford Treatment And Recovery Services)

If one of these charities appeals to you more please donate to their page which you can find in my TEAM link. It would be fantastic if we could get an even split of donations.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Thank you so much for all your support. It is raising money for these important charities that is keeping me motivated.
