Amputee friends to trek 700 miles virtual walk to support mental health

Two amputees 700 miles virtual trek · 1 March 2021
We are best friends Paul and Marc from Suffolk and we have one thing in common, we are both leg amputees. We meet about 6 years through a charity where we went on an amazing adventure climbing
Mount Snowdon in a round trip of 10 miles on crutches as part of group which raised money to support amputees across the uk. We thought it was time to do another challenge.
2020 has been a year of anxiety and uncertainty for millions of people and the uk is currently in a mental health emergency with more people than ever needing support. During this pandemic
which we all find ourselves in, millions of people are experiencing mental health problems for the first time. People have felt extremely lonely with lockdowns and being severely restricted. People face many worries – health of family and friends, bereavement, money worries from pay reduction or redundancy, and generally uncertainty about the future. Some people find it hard to call out for help and support and sadly end up taking their own lives.
The NHS staff have work tirelessly for months on end working extremely long shifts, putting their own lives at risk some even passing way from this virus, to help millions of others. They have been through so much and seen sights that will be in their minds for a long time. Many of these workers will suffer mental health issues and will need support to.
We want to be able to help support as many people as possible during these hard times and decided to raise as much money as possible for mental health charity Mind so they can continue the amazing work they do.
The Challenge
As amputees, we are taking on 5 virtual treks from around the world covering 700 miles. The virtual treks are
Mount Everest, Nepal 40 miles
Mount Fuji, Japan 46 miles
Great Ocean Road, Australia 149 miles
Cabot Trail, Canada 185 miles
Grand Canyon, USA 280 miles
We will be walking on crutches and doing
some rowing on a rowing machine, and we aim to complete the full 700 miles in just 16 weeks.
We need your help to help us raise as much money as we possibly can, so Mind can continue the amazing work they do and help as many people as possible during these uncertain times. Please spare
a few pounds and spread this across all your social media and help us complete our trek.
Thank you for reading and please look out for updates along our journey.
