Story
Hi; welcome to my JustGiving page.
So for my holiday this year I have decided to take on something a bit different; I am going to make an attempt at the Guinness World Record for the most countries visited in 7 days, currently standing at 15. My plan is to start in Greece in the morning of Sunday the 19th June and ride to the Netherlands if I can, stopping at every country along the way. If I make it all the way to Italy I will have reached 16 countries, if I make it to the Netherlands, that will be 22.
The distance I am planning to cover is just about 2900km om paper (1800 miles) which means I am planning to cover 410km/256 miles per 24 hours. I am doing this self supported; carrying everything I need along with me on my bike; I'm hoping it will make for a great adventure.
You can follow my progress on my tracker page: https://www.mapmytracks.com/events/craigs-race-home1/race/craigs-guinness-world-record-attempt
And on my Instagram @craig_ns_adventure where I will be sharing photos and video updates as often as I can.
I have decided to voluntarily sleep in the cheapest hotels and rough all week so I thought it would be nice to try to raise some money for those who have no choice in where they sleep next week; £1/km seemed ambitious; but £1/mile would be something I would like to achieve. Thanks for your help to try and get there!
If you don't know me:
My name is Craig and I live in Bristol. I have been serious about cycling for the last 10 years, starting out racing 10 and 25 mile time trials for a number of years until progress started to get harder and slower to make as I reached the limits of what my legs would do for me, in 2017/18 my coach suggested I tried focusing on longer time trials (50-100 miles) and I got hooked on dot-watching the Transcontinental race. In 2019 I decided to put my money where my mouth was and raced the Transatlantic Way which I DNF'd with Shermer's neck and the Pan Celtic Race which I finished third in. 2020 was 2020 and finally at the end of 2021 I won the September Great British Escapade and I could scratch the ultra itch again. I love to travel and see new places and I think doing it on a bike is one of the best ways to see countries, at party pace, or race pace.
