Story
In February my mum, Tacy Rickard was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Unfortunately, like many cases of this disease, the diagnosis came too late and three months later on the 22nd May she passed away at the age of 63.
While we are broken, we will not be beaten by this awful disease. My sister Aly, Aunty Sophie and I are going to celebrate mum's life by each walking or running (or run-walking) a mile for every year that she was with us. Starting from the 6th June we will complete this challenge in a month.
In addition to celebrating mum's life, we want to raise awareness of this awful disease so that people can be aware of the early warning signs and seek immediate action. We also want to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer Action whose valuable work aims to save lives and improve survival rates for individuals diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
And finally, this gives each of us a reason to get up, get dressed and get going every day during one of the hardest times we have ever faced as we come to terms with our loss.
We will honour her with every step we take.
Pancreatic Cancer Action are a national charity dedicated to saving lives by improving early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer and the quality of patient survival. with your help we fund vital research, create medical education programmes, produce national awareness campaigns and vital patient information.Together we can make a difference!
