Story
Please see their story which I shared below:
“* Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer in the US and can be PREVENTED by screening?
* Traditionally, screening had begun at age 50 but more recently the screening age has dropped to age 45?
* Less than 50% of people undergo recommended screening, particularly in vulnerable populations?
This fall, Mike and Justin will be turning 50.
To commemorate this milestone, they have decided to partner in an event to raise awareness about colorectal cancer to raise funding to help prevention and early detection of colorectal cancer. This initiative will expand awareness and education that will help prevent patients from developing colorectal cancer.
Mike and Justin met at Tufts in the fall of 1989 and have been close friends and colleagues since that time. They attended each other’s weddings, they celebrated and watched each other’s family grow, and they are health care providers for each other’s families. For the past 16 years they have been doctors at UMass Memorial and care for mutual patients. Coincidentally , share birthdays in September. They are both from central MA, both work in central MA and both care deeply about the central MA community. They have created this challenge to raise awareness and funding to make an impact!
On September 11th:
Mike will run 50 kilometers (31 miles).
Justin will golf 50 holes
Our team plans to run the last 10 kilometers with Mike on September 11th to bring him home
(and to put that in perspective, that will be FIFTY 200 meters)!
Please won't you consider supporting this amazing endeavor as we wish Mike and Justin a Happy 50th!
