Story
“When I go out, yeah I know I'm gonna be, I'm gonna be the one who goes along with you”
There’s a new challenge in the village! It’s got all the hallmarks of your typical fundraising challenge: distance, time limit, jeopardy…but with a few twists!
Bec & Isla will cover 500 miles between them, all in the month of September (a short month, in case you were wondering). Unlike the Camino de Santiago, which takes around 5 weeks, and which people take extended holidays to complete, our hardy duo will be undertaking this challenge alongside their usual work, home and social commitments. But here’s the real twist. Every mile will be completed on Iona. Every step. All on an island only 3 miles long and 1.5 miles wide, and with just over 2 miles of road end-to-end.
“And when the money, comes in for the work I do, I'll pass almost every penny on to you”
Over 30 days, they’ll record their progress – whether walking or running. They’ll need to cover between them the equivalent of the length of the road on Iona approximately 220 times. Sometimes solo, sometimes a duo and sometimes joined by the odd local celebrity. They’ll be out there come rain or shine, every day to raise funds for the new Iona Village Hall, and to spotlight its importance to our island community.
“if I haver up, yeah I know I'm gonna be, I'm gonna be the man who's havering to you”
You can follow their progress on social media where they’ll be posting all the chat and photos they gather as they pound the mean street of Iona.
It may only be a wee island, but they will walk it. All 500 miles…
Every £ you can give will spur Bec and Isla on so show them some love. It will go towards our new village hall, which will be the beating heart of the island for locals and visitors alike. Over £2million has already been raised and we have £100,000 left to hit the target. Your support will make a difference!
