I would walk 500 miles...for a cure, 10 September 2018
We are moving further, faster to help everyone affected by a brain tumour

Story

On the 1st September 2017 our beautiful baby Betty was diagnosed with a highly aggressive brain tumour, aged 7 months. Our world turned into a living nightmare. There aren’t words to describe what we have been through as a family, other than horrific.

In July 2018 she finished 10 months of gruelling treatment: brain surgery, intense chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and now - finally - we are at home with our daughter who is in remission, on a course of preventative oral chemotherapy for 1 year.

Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under 40. Research offers the only real hope of dramatic improvements in the management and treatment of brain tumours. Over £500m is spent on
cancer research in the UK every year, yet less than 2% is spent on brain tumours.

As a result of her illness and treatment Betty has been affected in lots of ways. We are lucky that she is happy and her sight has recovered, but developmentally she is delayed, deaf, and NG tube fed. At the moment, she’s learning to sit up and how to eat and drink orally again. She’s incredible. We’re learning BSL, we’ve become physio, play and medical specialists. She has a great team around her thanks to our wonderful precious NHS.

Many wonderful charities have helped us since Betty’s diagnosis, and continue to help us. We are so grateful to them all. We have chosen to fundraise for The Brain Tumour Charity, who are doing pioneering strategic work because they believe that fighting brain tumours on all fronts through research,  awareness and support is the only way to save lives, reduce long-term disabilities and help everyone with a brain tumour and their families.

Over the month of October 2018, we walked and ran up and down the country with our friends and family to raise awareness and funds. We set a target of 500 miles, but so far we’ve clocked up over 1,000!

We - and our friends and family - continue to fundraise towards this target through events, pledges and further sporting events.

Part of the Brain Tumour Charity #WalkWithUs campaign.

We would love anyone who feels like it to join us*, or do their own walk to help fundraise towards our goal. We will add up the mileage!

*Please send us a message on Facebook if you want to join in so we can send you all the info.

Thank you for your support.
