Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our "5 Peaks challenge" JustGiving page.
HELLO! Come March this yeah myself Roan Ballantine and my good friend Donald Newbery have taken on the challenge of climbing 5 mountains notorious for their difficulty, to raise money for Cancer research UK. Our Journey starts in our home country of Scotland as we embark to defeat Ben Nevis. We are then jetting of the US of A to tackle some of the west coast mountain range, such as the active volcano Mt St Helens, WA; The Matterhorn, OR; Mt Charity of the South Sisters, OR, and a final ascent in California - but we will make that a surprise in due course.
Ben Nevis -completed on 18/03/2015 - at 4409ft this is a good warm up to our trip. Known for its harsh rocky route and cold conditions its always a struggle up the UK's highest peak, however always rewarding.
Mt St Helens - This volcanic beast sits at 8365ft, snow capped and covered in harsh volcanic debris, it is one of Washington's most recent nightmares as it erupted in 1980.
The Matterhorn - a distant relative of the Swiss mountain, this peaks sits at 9826ft and is the 6th highest in Oregon. known for its limestone cliffs and unspoilt country side it can be known as the most beautiful area in the west.
Mt Charity - Oregon's 3rd highest mountain sits at 10358ft will be our highest climb. It is a well hiked path but difficult to get to for two guys with no idea. It is also a volcano but has not erupted in the last 2000 years so fingers crossed.
Mt *^&%^&%* - its a secret shhhh....
Please Donate to our cause. The fight to stop cancer is very Personal to both of us and we are hoping that our team effort with our community and more will help us raise as much money as possible.
This trip is funded independently by ourselves, all money raised will be going directly to the charity and all left over funds that we have raised for the trip will also be donated.
Thank you.
Please Donate!
