Story
Last year (2012) our local newspaper headline read:-
A Day off Work for Macmillan Cancer Support
‘A team of four local small tradesmen had a day away from their own business on a golfing challenge of 4 rounds of golf in one day in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support and The Longest Day Golf Challenge.
The Four Furlongs team (pictured: Dean Butler (Butlers Window Cleaning), Roger Tillett (Carpenter), Chris Adlem (C & J Adlem-Painter & Decorator), Dave Warwick (DIY Dave-Handyman), completed the Longest Day Golf challenge at Newbury Racecourse Golf Club on Friday 29th June 2012. They started at 4.30am in the morning drizzle and wind, played and walked the 18-hole course 4 times with varying weather changes and continuous strong gusty winds and finished at 8.30pm. Jim Purvis supported them throughout the day providing refreshments, encouragement and assisting with the odd lost ball, whilst other supporters popped in & out of the clubhouse to see how they were doing... (not wanting to go out in the weather themselves!) They all agreed that it was a long and challenging day but was well worth it and have already successfully raised in excess of £1,200, whilst the week previous the NRGC Seniors supported 71yr old Monty Norman while he completed the same challenge for the 3rd year, also raising over £1000. Well done to both parties on this brilliant achievement and a big Thankyou to all that sponsored them`.
WELL... 2013 is here and we are preparing for the Macmillan Longest Day Golf Challenge again... 72-holes in one day and no buggies!
All support, encouragement & donations welcome.
