Story
I have set myself 496 days of running a minimum of 5k each day in memory of my Granny Weller, a sufferer of Lupus, SLE (Systemic Lupus Erythematosus), since 1986 until she sadly passed away in 2014.
So, why 496 days you might ask and starting on the 19th January 2019? The 496 days are to celebrate her living at 496 London Road for 78 years, meaning that I will finish this almighty challenge on the 29th May 2020, which would've been her 86th birthday.
I will be using the 'Strava' Running App which you can follow each run, and posting my progress each and everyday with a selfie, time each run took me, and the distance covered on my Twitter (@JDW496RunMan) and Facebook.
What is Lupus?
It is an incurable immune system illness, probably genetic in origin and mainly suffered by females. Lupus can produce many symptoms and family doctors often fail to recognise it. The disease principally affects the kidneys and the skin, but may also affect the heart, lungs and brain. In my Granny's cause I remember bringing back factor 50 suncream, which she was required to wear all year round.
