Story
My name is Sam Thompson aka Bassduckfresh and I am a professional DJ based in Manchester. Last year whilst on a night out in Manchester I was raped. This as i'm sure you can imagine flipped the world I knew upside down. I found myself having to deal with what I can only describe as the worst thing imaginable and if it wasn't for my friends, family and Survivors Manchester I really don't know where I would be today.
Through my own experience and by talking to others I can without a doubt say that the first step to recovery is to #BreakTheSilence. I know first hand how difficult it is to take this step but I hope by sharing my story and by raising awareness through this mix I can turn a big ass negative in my life in to something positive by helping others to speak out and seek support. I want us male survivors to stand together to show it is ok to get upset, it's ok to admit that we can be victims of such crimes and that it is ok... I mean seriously, it's going to be ok.
On the 21st July 2017 I intend to #BreakTheSilence for 48hours by DJing live on an internet radio station. As this is a Guinness World Record attempt not only will you will be able to listen but you will also be able to tune in to our video stream and catch me live in the mix which I can only hope prevents me from falling asleep! We are just in the process of confirming a few of the finer details but please follow me (@bassduckfresh) and Survivors Manchester (@SurvivorsMcr) on social media to keep up to date as everything continues to develop.
Please take the time to share my attempt with your family and friends, heck... why not even get yourself a party organised to tune in? As much as I am doing this to raise money, I want to raise awareness and let other survivors know that there is a place that can help. Even if you just give my attempt a cheeky share on social media you could end up helping the people you wouldn't expect to need it.
Please make any donations that you can, no matter how big or small. All proceeds will go to Survivors Manchester to continue helping people just like me and I am extremely grateful of everything that we receive.
