We provide help and hope to everyone living with dementia.

Story

On the 16th of April, I will be running my very first marathon, and I'm doing it for a very important cause. I'm raising money for the Alzheimer's Society, a charity close to my heart, and one that is dedicated to supporting people affected by dementia.

Dementia is a cruel disease that affects thousands of people in the UK. It is estimated that there are currently around 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK, and this number is expected to rise to over 1 million by 2025. It's a heartbreaking statistic, but it's not just the numbers that are concerning; it's the impact that the disease has on individuals and their families.

As someone who works for the Ambulance Service, I see the impact of dementia firsthand. Every day, I meet people with dementia and their families, and I see the struggles that they face. I know that this disease can be devastating, not just for those who have it, but also for their loved ones.

Sadly, research and treatment for dementia are severely underfunded, and this is where I need your help. By raising money for the Alzheimer's Society, we can make a difference in the lives of those affected by dementia. Your support will help the charity to provide much-needed support, advice, and care for people living with dementia and their families. It will also fund vital research into the causes and potential treatments of the disease.

My journey to this point has been nothing short of tough. Three years ago, I was severely obese, weighing in at a staggering 25 stone (350lbs, 160kgs) and struggling with everyday tasks as simple as walking upstairs. To make matters worse, I suffered from sleep apnea, depression, and was on the brink of diabetes. I knew I was on a slippery slope, and I realized that this might be my last chance to turn my life around. So, I made a conscious decision to take full responsibility for my life and began my journey to a healthier and better me.

Over the past three years, I've put in countless hours of hard work and dedication to my fitness, health, and well-being. I've lost 12 stone (168lbs, 75kgs), and along with that, I've cured myself of depression and found joy in living and seeking discomfort. It hasn't been easy, and there were times when I wanted to give up, but my determination and discipline kept me going. And now, I'm ready to take on my next challenge - running a marathon.

I know it's going to be a tough challenge, but I'm excited to see what my body and mind are capable of achieving. And knowing that I'm running for such a worthy cause, the Alzheimer's Society, gives me even more motivation to succeed. Every step I take towards the finish line will not only be a personal victory for me but also a victory for all those affected by dementia.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for supporting me on this journey. Let's work together to make a difference in the lives of those affected by dementia.

Sincerely,

Cezary
