Story
Thank you for visiting our page. We've chosen to take part in the Three Peaks for Gaz 2023, supporting Sarcoma UK in memory of Gareth (Gaz) Emmerson who was our son-in-law/brother-in-law and sadly passed away last summer, at the age of 29, after a long battle against Ewing's Sarcoma.
This will be a challenge for us, the closest we normally get to
Hiking is walking to school/work so its time to hit the Peloton & the Surrey Hills to start training, come September we'll be climbing the 3 highest mountains in Britain - in 24 hours!
The four of us (Nathalie / David / Calum and Tristan) are part of a 52-strong wider group headed by our amazing daughter Zoe with everyone being either immediate family, or close friends of Gaz. We comprise a wide range of ages and abilities with Nathalie’s father aged 79 down to Zoe’s younger bother aged 15.
November 2020 was a turning point for Gaz when he found out
the cancer had spread to his brain and his diagnosis became terminal. He immediately decided to focus on something positive raising as much money and awareness as possible for Sarcoma UK. Gaz decided to do this by cycling 1000 miles from Lands End to John O'Groats across 12 days in June 2021 with his then fiancé Zoe, Dad Andy and four of his closest friends. He trained for the bike
ride whilst on chemotherapy and took a short break from treatment to complete the challenge. Team Gaz Emmerson's bike ride raised an amazing £117,000 for Sarcoma UK, their largest ever fundraise.
His next goal was to complete this challenge. Whilst he is no longer here to complete it with us, his memory, life and determination will be driving us all up (and down) those mountains.
Sarcoma UK is a national charity that funds vital research, offers support for anyone affected by sarcoma cancer and campaigns for better treatments. Sarcoma is a type of cancer that develops in the bone and soft tissue. It is difficult to diagnose and one of the hardest to treat. By supporting us, we can help change this. Your donation will help researchers find answers, keep the specialist Support Line open, and raise awareness to improve treatment and standards of care. Your donations go so far in helping the sarcoma community, £30 could fund one hour of use of a high-powered laboratory microscope. £150 could fund the support line for a week. Thank you for your support.
