Kilimanjaro - the lemosho trail · 22 January 2010
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
As you can see from the photos this is about 3 guys built the "wrong shape" Kurt, Chris and Mike trying to do the "right stuff" and raise some much needed funds for the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance Trust. lincairambulance@btconnect.com
This will be a journey and a challenge for us given that we are not the youngest, slimmest, fittest and best preserved specimens on the planet. But we have big hearts and plenty of determination and will be giving it 100%.
Our challenge starts on the 22nd January when we give up our nice warm beds and our 200m journey to the local..lol.
The biggest fear for us all is not the freezing temperatures on the gut busting trekking (although that is not something we are looking forward to..lol) it is our bodies ability to deal with altitude.... or altitude mountain sickness as it is referred too. However we have doctors on hand to constantly check up on us and to stop our friends and families at home worrying.... Well here are a few notes on the days that lie ahead.
Kilimanjaro – the Worlds highest free-standing mountain – join our ultimate trekking Challenge to the “Roof of Africa”
Standing at an impressive 5,895m over the African plains, Mt Kilimanjaro is one of Africa’s best sights and on reaching the summit of Uruhu Peak, well; you will have just summated the Worlds highest free-standing mountain and also, bagged one of the Worlds Seven Highest Summits.
This challenging trek follows the much less trodden Lemosho Glades route and is said to be one of the most stunningly beautiful hikes in Africa.
You will trek through near enough every eco-system known to man – this is a very exciting wilderness route which is being used to avoid overcrowding on the more trodden Machame Route. We’re sure this Challenge will leave you with an amazing sense of accomplishment – so, don your trekking boots and join us on this ultimate trek of a lifetime!
