Story
We are just 3 of over 100 volunteers that give their time to help Diabetes UK each year on their care support holidays. Between the three of us we have been volunteering for over 25years.
Since being diagnosed with Type one diabeties at at early age we have benefited from the work Diabetes UK care support events have offered. With this in mind and meeting many other people who Diabetes UK has helped we would like to help Diabetes UK continue their excellent work.
Diabetes is an incurable condition - over their lifetime, a child with diabetes will inject thousands of times.
Pesty!, Ann and Steven, are climbing the 3 peaks, but with a difference. They'll be doing it 3 legged!! Over 5 days they will drive across the UK, from Ben Nevis to Snowdon, climbing the 3 highest peaks as they go.
Children diagnosed with type 1 diabetes face a lifetime of up to 7 injections a day, and blood glucose tests in order to keep blood glucose levels balanced and to remain healthy. Children with diabetes often feel alone, being the only child they know who has diabetes.
If not managed properly, diabetes can lead to long term health problems such as blindness and kidney damage.
Diabetes U.K runs holidays for children with diabetes to come together, have fun and learn that they are not alone. These events are vital in supporting them come to terms with their condition and are funded by donations and staffed by volunteers. In order for these amazing events to continue we need your sponsorship!
