15th September Update: I MADE IT!!! I climbed the three highest peaks in the UK in one weekend! For photos and full report visit my blog - http://3csconquer3peaks.blogspot.com A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL THOSE WHO BELIEVED IN ME AND SUPPORTED ME THROUGHOUT!
I'm a crazy sort of person, who likes crazy sorts of challenges, so after walking 100kms over the South Downs in 24hours a few years back, I was looking for something crazier... So this year I am attempting to conquer the three highest peaks in the UK - Ben Nevis (1344m), Scafell Pike (977m) and Snowdon (1085m), all within 24 hours! Call me crazy, most people do!
At 8am on September 13th we'll be heading off from Fort Willam to climb Ben Nevis, before heading down to the Lake District to start our ascent of Scafell Pike about 6.30pm. Then with two peaks under our hats we'll head to the Llanberis Pass to attempt the third and final peak - Snowdon, about 4am. The aim being to make it down in time for breakfast at 8am, thus having conquered all 3 peaks within the 24hrs.
Initially I thought i was the only crazy one among my friends, but as my motivation and excitment for this challenge grew, it must have rubbed off on a few people, as now Claire and Craig have both signed up and are doing it with me. We were all looking for a challenge to motivate as us to get fitter, and to get out of London a bit more - I think the 3 Peaks Challenge fits the bill! We've set up a blog so that you can all keep up with our progress http://3csconquer3peaks.blogspot.com/
We are walking in support of the Meningitis Trust, and while I have had no direct affliation with them, do know they are a worthy cause. They also happen to be the most organised for this challenge, providing us with both transport and professional guides to make sure we don't get lost on the mountains. This support does come at a cost though, so part of the sponsorship I raise will go towards me participating in this challenge - along with the £75 registration I have already paid them directly. I think it's worth it though, and just to prove it, I am aiming to raise £300 more than the minimum sponsorship.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Meningitis Trust gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please support us by following our progress, joining us on our training walks and sponsoring us.
