Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Fairly recently, in October 2015, Dan's mum, Helen suffered a Brain haemorrhage during a body pump class. The haemorrhage led to a very serious bleed on the brain resulting in Helen requiring multiple Brain Operations at Coventry University Hospital.
Although some set backs, the surgeries have been successful, and thanks to a simply brilliant team of Doctors and Nurses, against tough odds Helen has been on the road to recovery ever since. She has progressed from Critical Care in need of 24 hour supervision, to High Dependancy Ward, Step Down Unit, Regular ward at Leicester General Hospital, Rehabilitation, and most recently... Home with Pete & Matty and the Dogs.
It's been a whirlwind few months for Helen, she's been through so very much, and even to this day doesn't realise quite how strong a person she is to have made it this far. There's still some way to go yet, learning to walk again being her current focus, but we're all confident she will get there.
Anybody who knows Helen, be it friends, family, colleagues will know how positive, funny, caring and kind she is, not to mention how fit she is! Well Headway, the charity we are raising money for are here to help get her back to that same Helen we all know and love. Also, what better way to raise money than a challenge like this, that Helen would love to take on herself!
Headway are invaluable to survivors of brain injury, and will play a big role in the recovery journey Helen has ahead of her. Brain injury can be a crippling and isolating condition and every single sufferer's case is unique both physically and psychologically and so is their need for support tailored to them. Headway also offer fantastic support to Helen's family as a whole, giving guidance along the way, advice and encouragement to aid Helen's recovery.
