Thanks for taking the time to Project 3580
She lived in a refugee camp outside of Waterloo in Sierra Leone.
She attended Penisula Primary School
She wanted to be lawyer.
She was just 9 years old, when she died of a malaria induced coma.
She was the 3580 child to have died in a small refugee camp that year
She became project 3580.
Our aim
In October 2011, the charity aims to purchase and ship 3580 mosquito nets to Kissy Refugee Camp, Waterloo Sierra Leone. Each net will cover a family of up to 4 so there is the potential to save over 14,000 people from this cruel disease.
Whilst at the camp the charity will also rebuild the former UN school which has wasted away, yet still sees 90 students sitting on the floors in each classroom. Each room will be provided with furniture, learning resources and textbooks. Building work will also occur to ensure that the facilities stay safe for future generations.
What can you do?
Firstly and simply is to simply donate, either through the link below or via texting NETS 80 followed by a donation amount (e.g. £3) to 70070. Every penny received goes towards the project and £4 will pay for 1 net which can save 4 lives.
Secondly - Spread the word, tell your friends, steal some phones and text, "like us" on facebook, tweet to the world. If everyone gets 5 friends to text, who in turn get 5 people to text... The possibilities are endless.
Thirdly if you wish to really contribute join our Project 3580 team (link on bottom left of page), come up with some ideas and contribute directly to our total.

In a week we have raised £466!!!! Or rather YOU and the students have. A group of year 11's had a cake sale yesterday and raised a colossal £123 - enough for 25 mosquito nets: a truly amazing effort. Please forego a pint of beer this weekend or a bottle of wine, and donate the money to a really good cause.

Hi all - lots of brilliant stuff going on and lots to come. Thanks to everyone for their efforts. I believe we are now over the £4000, but will check officially tomorrow. Many thanks to Rob Quinn for organising the golf day, and for Mr Brickwood and his entire PE staff who gave the charity £100 today - all from the lunchtime clubs that run. Thanks to all the bed-pushers who have registered and to form tutors who are having breakfasts and doing amazing things. A big thanks to Matt Bird who has organised a charity gig in Worcester with many bands playing, some with Great Barr members. Please see Matt if you want more info or would like to come and support. This event has already generated a £250 donation today from a local business which is brilliant.

Hi all - just to keep you posted on events. Matt's gigs in Worcester not only raised an amazing £2000 but secured an amazing grant of £7000 from the Bransford trust. This means that WE CAN AFFORD TO BUY 4000 MOSQUITO NETS. Now we just need to raise the funds to get the nets from Tanzania to UK and on to Sierra Leone with all the furniture for the classrooms.

Hi all - just to keep you posted on events. This week has seen another £1400ish added to the fund - many thanks to various staff for this including Satnam Jhalley, Sarah Minshull, and Elaine Caldecott and her form, and others for their efforts. We are awaiting a cheque for a further £7000 as well. We have managed to source mosquito nets at approx £4 each with shipping - perversely made in Tanzania. The 5th June sees a bunch of staff running, walking, pushing, ambling and crawling the Midlands fun run raising money as well. Once more, many thanks for all of your efforts. I have high ropes that we may hit £20000 which is a phenomenal amount of money especially in the tough economic climate we are in.

Morning everyone. I just wanted to let you know of a fabulous achievement by Great Barr Staff yesterday. A team of 12 heroes completed the 8.5 mile Great Midlands 'Fun' Run pushing a bed (dressed with african blanket, mosquito net and baby). Despite a number of setbacks - a wheel malfunction (it fell off) and the 'Allden Headboard incident' in Sutton Park (best ask him), we finished majestically like prancing gazelles, in a respectable time of 2 hours 20 minutes. A huge thankyou to the team who were magnificent throughout the day, raising lots of money for Project 3580.

Hi all - after a campaign of emails and letter writing, we have some good news. Andrew Mitchell, Government Minister for Overseas Aid and MP for Sutton has replied and...............................will visit Great Barr after the summer holidays to 'chat' about Project 3580. This is great news, not only for the Project's momentum, but also great publicity for the school. Thanks to all staff who emailed/wrote letters - what a team.
30/06/2011.
Today saw 6 staff collect 2 van loads of furniture from Stockland green to refurbish 3 classrooms in the refugee camp in waterloo.

A monumental day as we ordered the nets. Should hopefully arrive in 6 weeks. Issues are that due to current climate, the shipping agent can no longer support us as a charity. We therefore need to raise £3k for the transport of the nets and £3K for the large 40ft container for the nets and all the furniture. - Anyone have a spare 40ft container lying around?
