We provide mental health training to help people look after their wellbeing

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

It’s 30 years since a young man called Charlie Waller graduated from Durham University and it is 24 years since he, suffering from undiagnosed depression, tragically took his own life.

Since then the Charlie Waller Trust has helped tens of thousands of young people manage their mental health better, offering free training in schools, at universities and in the workplace.

The Trust’s work is evidence-based and proven — along the way it has undoubtedly saved many lives and has been recognised with the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.

The pandemic has caused a spike in mental health distress — especially anxiety and depression — and yet it has also badly impacted fundraising.

On the 9th of June a group of people who knew and loved Charlie, all of them now deep in middle age, will smear on the embrocation, snap on the lycra (easier said than done) and attempt to cycle 300 miles to Durham, to raise critical funds for the Trust’s vital work.

The peloton for this chafe-athon comprises: Richard Waller, Jamie McCallum, Mark Durden-Smith, Gavin Owston, Tim West, Edward Longfield, Robert Jardine-Brown and Iain Weatherby.

It will not be pretty. It will be painful. But every penny we can raise will go to fund the work of the Charlie Waller Trust, ensuring young people can get the mental health help they need.

Please give generously. We’ll keep supporters updated on our progress but will take care to spare you the most harrowing images.

Thank you
