Story
I will be walking approximately 300 miles from Chester to Plaistow
whilst pulling a cart I have made myself. I expect this to take me around 3 weeks to complete, during which the cart will also be my home and bed for the night. The cart itself will weigh around 50kgs in addition to my personal belongings, food and cooking equipment.
My challenge will start at Chester Museum on 29th September 2019 and will take me past Shrewsbury, Worcester, Gloucester, Swindon, Salisbury and Winchester before ending in Plaistow. Please keep an eye out for me and the cart if you are in the local area.
I am taking on this challenge in aid of Brooke Action for Working Horses and Donkeys. By pulling a cart weighing approximately my own body weight over long distances, I am hoping to highlight the plight of working equines around the world, who are relied upon to transport water, heavy bricks, and people on a daily basis. Many of them will suffer from exhaustion, dehydration and malnutrition as a result of excessive workloads and poor living conditions.
Brooke works with owners and communities to ensure a better standard of welfare for these animals, through the training of local vets, farriers and harness makers. They also work with governments, organisations and policy makers to create sustainable changes that will have long term impacts on the lives of working equines.
Please do follow my journey and donate if you can.
