Olney Mums complete 3 Peaks Challenge!!!
On the 13 September, we (Hayley, Vicky, Claire, Charlotte and Emma) swapped our nappy bags and wet wipes for our hiking boots and rucksacks and set off on the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge.
We climbed the peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, walking just shy of a marathon (24.5 miles), climbed over 7,063 feet, (2,153 metres) and all in 11 hours and 44 minutes to complete the 12 hour challenge.
We’re now feeling a few aches and pains but a great sense of achievement. We’ve been overwhelmed by the amazing support and generosity of our friends and family who have helped us raise over £2,200 for Toby and other families living with Dravets.
Thank you, we’re very grateful.
Our Motivation:
To increase awareness of Dravet Syndrome and raise money for Dravet Syndrome UK, a charity dedicated to improving the lives of those affected by Dravet Syndrome through medical research and family support.
Never heard of Dravet Syndrome?
Well neither had we, until our friends, Tim and Kim O’Grady received the
devastating news that their gorgeous baby boy Toby, has this genetic condition.
Toby was born on 22 November 2013, a healthy baby boy. When he was 8 weeks old his parents Tim & Kim O’Grady noticed he was shaking and having convulsions, this resulted in a scary trip to A&E for tests and investigations.
Over the coming weeks emergency trips to MK Hospital and Oxford Neurology department became the norm as Toby developed a complex epilepsy that was resistant to anti-epileptic drugs. When he was six months old Toby was diagnosed with Dravet Syndrome.
Dravet Syndrome is a life limiting genetic condition that causes severe epileptic seizures alongside other conditions such as learning disability, ataxia and autism. Children with Dravet Syndrome are at a higher risk of sudden unexplained death in epilepsy (SUDEP) than children with other types of epilepsy.
Toby has suffered with prolonged seizures lasting over an hour, and the family have become used to daily ambulances arriving at their home, administering emergency drugs, giving Toby oxygen and performing CPR.
Tim & Kim don’t know what the future holds for Toby but they are going to do everything they can for him so that he can reach his full potential and live a life that’s as ‘normal’ as possible.

How you can help
To spur us on and put an extra spring in our step it would be great if you could make a small donation to support our ‘Three Peaks Challenge’ and this worthy charity.
Every penny truly does make a difference, for example £600 pays for an epilepsy mattress monitor for one family and £150 pays for a video monitor for one family. These monitors can prove life-saving and Dravet Syndrome UK are committed to providing them without a waiting list for any Dravet family that apply.
Huge thanks in advance
Vicky, Charlotte, Hayley, Claire and Emma
