We provide opportunities in performing arts to people with learning disabilities

Story

Blue Apple is an ambitious creative company that supports performers with learning disabilities to develop theatre, dance, singing, and film productions.

The arts sector was hit particularly hard by the pandemic, and although much of the UK has reopened, it will take years before the industry fully recovers.

The learning disability community also struggled immensely during this time. Not being able to keep up their daily routines, see friends and family, or attend classes and groups has had a profound effect on many, leading to a loss of confidence and, in some cases, increased anxiety.

In response, Blue Apple has been working hard to help this community bounce back and bring new life into the arts. This year they hope to host a summer school introducing performing arts to young people and adults with learning disabilities as well as offering more advanced enrichment skills to experienced performers with learning disabilities.

To fund this summer school, four friends, Nick, Rich, Jack, and Steve, will be taking on one of the UK’s toughest challenges, completing the three highest peaks in the UK - Snowdon, Scafell Pike, and Ben Nevis - in just 24 hours over 26/27 June. The total walking distance is 23 miles (37km) and the total ascent is 3,064 metres (10,052ft)!

The four friends discovered their love for hiking during the Duke of Edinburgh Awards at school, and 16 years later, they are still going! Even though they all now live in different areas, have started families, and work in completely different jobs, they still meet up once a year for their annual hike.

This will be their longest and most challenging hike to date. However, the four of them are determined to do their best to complete the challenge to raise as much money as they can for this worthwhile cause.

£2,000 will allow Blue Apple to put on this fantastic project, and anything additional that’s raised will go towards extra outreach activities. All donations are welcome, and please do share this page to help spread awareness.

Let’s get the boys to their target and help Blue Apple reach those most in need this summer!
