Poppy pledge, 11 November 2021
In 1921, over nine million poppies were created and sold on 11 November. Today, over five million Scottish poppies are still made by hand by disabled ex-Servicemen & ex-Servicewomen at Lady Haig's Poppy Factory each year distributed by Poppyscotland.

Story

This year, 2 Platoon (Motherwell) will be taking part in the “1921 Poppy Pledge”.
This mission is to raise £1,921 (£2000 because our cadets apparently don't like odd numbers)over the course of 2021; known as the “gold standard target”.

As a unit, we will have until 11th November 2021, to achieve this target. This will be done in various ways which the cadets will come up with to help raise funds.

All the money raised by the unit is a tribute to our Armed Forces Community. This challenge could help The Poppy Appeal Charity to fund home adaptations and mobility aids that enable an elderly or disabled veteran to live safely and independently in their own home.

The Scottish Poppy Appeal raises over £2 million each year. Poppyscotland was established in 1921 as The Earl Haig Fund Scotland but adopted their current name and logo in 2006 to reflect their revised fundraising activities andwelfare services work. In June 2011 Poppyscotland merged with their sister charity The Royal British Legion (TRBL), which operates in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, to form the largest charity group supporting the Armed Forces community across the whole of the UK. Poppyscotland continue to operate as a distinct charity within the TRBL group of charities, relying entirely on public donations to allow us to continue our life-changing work.
