Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My godfather and relatives are from Lviv Oblast in Ukraine who are either fighting on the front lines, helping with humanitarian aid for other Ukrainians who are sheltering in Lviv. My great aunty and her family refuese to leave their homes and are surviving during the Russian attacks.
One of my cousins who was a university student in Paris, visited her family before the Russians invaded and on the 24th February, she was forced to flee. Half way through her journey, she was stuck in traffic causing her to miss the coach for Paris. She had to walk 5km to the Polish border along with other Ukrainians trying to cross the border. Once she entered Poland, a volunteer dropped her off at Rzeszow, where she managed to get transport back to Paris.
On 13th March, Ukrainian Community Centre 'Kalyna' was one of many donation hubs for anyone who wished to donate for the Ukrainian people. In some of the images shared here, shows just how busy it was and how much kindness was shown from the people and communities round Leicestershire. Some of the volunteers at our centre had no connections with Ukraine, they just wanted to help and continuing to do so today. They have now become great and close friends of our community.
As aid donations were slowing since May, I decided to for the first anniversary of the invasion, I'm going to attempt to walk from Nottingham Ukrainian Club 'Clawson Lodge' to Leicester Ukrainian Club 'Kalyna' which is roughly 28 miles (45km). I want to raise money for the Ukrainians who are still there either defending their homeland, in hiding from the shelling by the invaders or helping other Ukrainians fleeing their homes in different parts of the country.
Ukraine's hospitals and ambulances have either been destroyed or severely damaged during attacks on cities and towns, making them difficult to maintain or beyond repair for emergency call outs.
The British Ukrainian Aid is a remarkable charity. They use the funds to assemble First Aid kits for civilian and military use, they purchase other medical supplies/equipment that isn't standard first aid regulations and they have been purchasing ambulances to be sent to Ukraine.
I'm very proud of my Ukrainian heritage and want to do as much as I can to help the Ukrainian people. Doing this challenge to raise money will show them we're still #StandingWithUkraine through these difficult times.
If you don't wish to sponsor, that's fine, no hard feelings. If you could share this please, it will be very much appreciated.
