Story
The 28th June 2020 marks 51 years since the first day of the Stonewall riots in New York City, which helped to establish the LGBT+ movement as we know it today.
We, thanks to the many protestors before us, have found each other and are able to live our lives together happily, safely and openly. We feel that it is our mission to ensure that others are able to do the same all over the world, particularly during these difficult times.
This year, to celebrate Pride, we will be walking 28km (for the 28th) through the city of Frankfurt over 6 bridges (for the 6th month) in full rainbow attire carrying collection buckets and handing out information |(and stickers!) to raise awareness and money.
We are raising money for both OPAL (see charity information below) to support LGBTI refugees and asylum seekers in the UK, and LSVD Frankfurt (see https://www.lsvd.de/de/home) to support other LGBT causes such as 'Rainbow Refugees' in Frankfurt. All Just Giving proceeds will go to OPAL, whilst all money collected in Frankfurt will go directly to LSVD.
OPAL: OPAL is an African LGBTI organisation that supports LGBTI asylum seekers and refugees in the UK through proving a safe space, peer support, therapeutic and social inclusion. This is an emergency appeal made to raise fund in a concerted effort to help the isolated and vulnerable refugees and asylum seekers during the COVID19 pandemic. Opal is an African LGBTI organisation that supports LGBT asylum seekers and refugees in the UK. Many of our members are destitute and in dire need, facing financial challenges that render them helpless. And, for some of them, their circumstances are compounded by poverty and homelessness, as well as poor physical and mental health, creating an aggravating situation that has made them hostage, especially in the face of the pandemic.
