Story
With thousands of fundraising events being cancelled, charities need our support more now than ever. ‘The 2.6 Challenge’, is a campaign to help charities across the UK address an expected £4 billion income shortfall following the Covid-19 Pandemic. The campaign, which will launch on Sunday 26th April, the original date for the London Marathon, aims to get the public to come up with fun and innovative activities around 2.6 or 26.
Our goal is to raise much needed funds for Cure Leukaemia (CL), a Birmingham based charity which has recently opened 12 centres across the UK, each receiving funding for a three-year period from January 2020 to form the Trials Acceleration Programme (TAP) Network. CL patients still require treatment during the Covid-19 Pandemic and the Clinical Trials are essential to finding long term solutions for Leukaemia patients.
How – I am going to complete 26 CrossFit workouts, one per hour, over a 26 hour period. Starting Saturday 25th April, and finishing Sunday 26th April 2020. We will conduct these from our home gym due to the lockdown requirements, but people can join in via Zoom or Facebook Live (details to follow). This will be quite a challenge, but we will be sharing the journey with supporters along the way.
About Us – Mel has been supporting CL since 2015 when she cycled the whole Tour de France route (c.3,500km) just one day ahead of the actual race, raising funds for the charity. She rode with Geoff Thomas, former professional footballer. Mel is a keen CrossFitter and will complete the workouts supported by Fionn who has a background in Sports Marketing and Management. Fionn will be responsible for all social media aspects of the challenge, as well as joining in for a few workouts when she can!
