World Record Attempt
To raise awareness of
Motor Neurone Disease and money for the Dodie5 Foundation
The most burpees by a team in 24 hours
Six adventurers who are possibly in equal parts courageous
and fool-hardy will attempt to break the official Guinness World Record for the most chest-to-floor burpees in 24hrs starting at 1200hrs on Sat 11th March. To break the record these six burpee warriors, Nick Gibbins, Misty Leigh-Botha, Rich Breeze, Jes Hodges, Greg Ryan and Olivia Hickey, will work in a relay to break the current world record of 12,502 set by a fantastic team based in Abu Dhabi in 2020.
It will take place at the amazing Strength Room on City Island, near Canning Town DLR.
There are strict rules to abide by, set by Guinness, that include the whole 24hr attempt being recorded so as well as recording and we will live stream the event so that you can check our progress from the comfort of your own homes, or come down and see us in person. There will be audience participation and we’re going to be there for a while…
The attempt has already involved a lot of training;
strengthening muscles and ligaments to prevent breaking down half-way through, improving aerobic fitness to cope with the demands of such a high impact exercise, and training long to improve endurance.
There have already been set-backs with injuries, the inevitable winter viruses and logistical issues but the event itself will be even tougher. Exercising for 24hrs is never easy, but the motivation of breaking the record and doing so to raise money for such a worthwhile cause will spur us on, especially with two of our number being over 50, and four of us over 40! We’re also doing this for all the mid-life athletes out there; there’s plenty of fight in the dog yet!
For this once-in-a-lifetime attempt we will need all the support you can give us, so please message us, get involved, donate, and cheer us on.
Let’s Go!
Nick, Misty, Rich, Jes, Greg and Olivia.
