We are a 24 hour search & rescue service to save lives at sea

Story

12 volunteers from Maersk Training in Newcastle are to take part in a mental and physical challenge as they prepare to spend 24 hours in a survival liferaft to raise funds for the RNLI. The brave volunteers will enter the life raft at 17:00 on Friday 21 August and remain inside until 17:00 on Saturday 22 August, in aid of the RNLI - the charity that saves lives at sea. A 12 man Life Raft will be anchored just off Tynemouth, Longsands next to the Lifeguard station and the challenge for our volunteers is to stay in the raft with only the normal provisions that would be found onboard for the full 24 hours. We are hoping to have a live web cam inside the raft and our volunteers will be posting live tweets and facebook posts throughout the challenge. The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea, providing an on call a 24-hour lifeboat search and rescue service around the UK and Ireland, and a seasonal lifeguard service. With 92% of the RNLI’s total income coming from generous donations and legacies, they depend on our dedicated volunteers and supporters to save lives at sea. Your support means our lifeboat crews can reunite the 22 people they rescue each day with their families. Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. We've joined together to raise money for charity. You'll see our team fundraising target on the right. Your donation can really help us smash this goal.

Remember: Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never share them with anyone or send you unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. They'll make sure Gift Aid (an additional 25%) is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer, too. That means more money goes to the charity, faster, with JustGiving.

The money collected will be kept within the Tynemouth RNLI Lifeboat Station.
