Story
Hi, it's Dan! Although I'm not a big fan of birthdays and the FB-led birthday fundraisers, I know times like these important nonprofits can really take a hit. As I turn 23 on Sep 23, maybe I can use this opportunity to contribute something. A lot of my past and current research centers around climate and human rights, so I found a solid organization doing work in this realm.
We all know climate crisis is a huge umbrella of different things that are going on in the world, but its connection to human rights abuses go hand-in-hand. I think organizations carrying out this work must do so globally if possible and try to accomplish specific tasks on top of keeping pressure up to governments. From my research about the Environmental Justice Foundation, I think their work is critical to tackling, exposing, and imaging a just future. They work to expose illegal fishing in Taiwan, document climate witnesses in Kenya, campaign against child labor in the cotton industry, and much more.

I'll cycle every mile per dollar in their name in the week of my birthday for some, because that's all the birthday gifts I need, and hopefully add some extra incentives to this campaign. However, if you are encountering financial difficulties due to the pandemic, definitely don't do this! The fact that you're on this page already means a lot.
EJF description: "The Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF) is working to secure a world where we all work with, rather than against, the natural environment. From lobbying for policies that tackle climate change to protecting our precious oceans from illegal fishing and poaching practices, let's combat environmental injustice together."
