Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit 21 Sparkle Challenge JustGiving page.

All money raised though the 21 Sparkle Challenge will be going to Abbie's Sparkle Foundation.

21 Events, 21 Months, £21K Per Challenge Year In Memory Of Abbie On Her 21st Birthday

My name is Lauren and I started the 21 Sparkle Challenge.  The challenge has been amazing and I have done it so other people can come and take on an event with me and that they have.  The Beast Race is outstanding we have over 40 team members and I would like to thank every one of them for helping raise as much money as possible and for all of you donating to this wonderful cause.

I little back ground, I am no trained athlete,  and other than the Banchory Beast, I have never taken part in events like these before. I am simply a mother of 2 who wants to support this amazing charity and raise as much as I can. The challenge will run from February 2022 until October 2023 (Abbie’s birthday).

I am very grateful for all support and help I have been given and for all the people who have signed up to take on an event with me.

The charity

Abbie Sparkle is a Scottish children’s charity providing support for children with cancer across the UK. We know how important
it is to live every moment of every day to the full and Abbie’s Sparkle
Foundation is here to spread Abbie’s sparkle to help brighten a child’s day.

Abbie’s Story

Abbie’s smile, sparkle, and infectious enthusiasm lit up the room and that’s exactly how Abbie wanted people to remember and celebrate her life. Abbie (15) from Elgin, passed away on Christmas day 2017 after living with Sarcoma, a rare form of cancer, for four years and four months. Christmas was Abbie’s favourite day, she loved it, we believe that Abbie held on and chose the sparkliest day of the year to go. It was the sense of humour and laugh out loud mentality which set
Abbie apart and meant she lived every moment to the full. Abbie was a vivacious and talented cheerleader who was hailed by medics as “incredible and a truly inspirational young woman”. One of Abbie’s wishes was to raise money for “hospitals and stuff” under the charity name Abbie’s Sparkle Foundation.

What the charity does

We give children gifts and grants, or as we call them “sparkles” assessed on an individual basis, dependant on need. We do this
with the purpose of

  • Putting a smile on the face of a child undergoing challenges due to cancer.
  • Giving them even a small moment to feel happier.
  • Them knowing that someone is thinking of them and understanding that times are hard.
  • Giving a child a treat that perhaps the family, due to circumstances can no longer afford.
  • Helping support children who are away from home having treatment.
  • Helping families make special memories together.
