Story
This year after an absence due to the COVID restrictions we will be swimming in support of Fisher house, as before we are planning to swim as many lengths as possible over the afternoon of the 27th of November between the hours of 13:00 and 17:00. Our young people will also sponsor themselves on behalf of Fisher House if they feel, they are unable to swim.
Fisher house UK is funded completely by charitable donations and recognises the tremendous sacrifices of our military men and women in the armed forces.
Fisher House is a 'home away from home' for military patients and their loved ones at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB). This means that when military patients are being treated at the QEHB), their families can stay at Fisher House.
Due to the world class care carried out at QEHB and the lessons learnt from the battlefield, servicemen and women often survive injuries today that would have died from just a few years ago. But injuries sustained can be life-changing and for their families, the knock at the door is something that they dread.
When we speak to the families of injured service people, they tell us that when they hear their loved one is injured, they just want to get to Birmingham as soon as possible, with little thought of where they will stay when they get there. Fisher house is here, within walking distance of the hospital providing a safe place for these family members and patients to adjust and recover during this difficult time.
Fisher house has 18 large family bedrooms, all with en-suite facilities and disabled access throughout. There are also communal facilities to enable patients to get out of the ward and spend time with families, friends and colleagues in a non-clinical environment.
Please help us to help them!
