Story
Final Update
As you probably know, I set myself the challenge of 3 marathons in 2023, having run my first ever the previous year. As many of you will know, but lots might not, I woke up one Wednesday morning in June and couldn’t walk (without a lot of pain). Not great for anything really, and definitely not good for running. It was clear early on that this was not going to be fixed by the Chester Marathon in October.
Very long story short, I employed the diligent services of Jimmy over at Alpha Physio in Martlesham and after many weeks I got back to first being able to walk with the kids again, then to dog walks, and then on to have a little jog, first with my actual wife (not running wife) just a couple of weeks ago.
Clearly out of time for the year, and nowhere near at full strength, I had failed my three-marathon challenge, and I was more than a little disappointed.
Having the opportunity to take part in a gym triathlon seemed like a good idea, to me, but not so much to many people around me 😉.
So, I did it:
2.5k Row -> 20km Ride -> 5km Run
Time:
00.54.23
Chuffed, and signing off from sporting challenges for another year! Please give generously, your donations make a lot of difference.

I'm at it again... this time with 3 marathon's for 2023, you might say 202-3 Marathon's:
- 12th March - Cambridge Boundary Run: https://cuhh.soc.srcf.net/boundary-run/
- 28th May - Edinburgh Marathon: https://www.edinburghmarathon.com/marathon/route-map
- Chester Marathron
I still maintain that only idiots run marathon's, its a stupid distance to run and one which the human body isn't not designed to do - certainly mine isn't.
I've yet to run a marathon without breaking my body. London 2 Brighton I broke before the first marathon distance. London Marathon I broke at the half way point and struggled on.
I've decided it's about time I ran that distance (in an official race) without breaking... might as well try and do that three times.
