Story
One day, many warm months ago, Yanna suggested she and I went sea kayaking in Greece. Little did I know, this was part of her cunning plan to get me to paddle the Devizes to Westminster with her in the heaviest tandem kayak she could find. When I protested, Yanna stuck me to the seat in front of her in our two (wo)man kayak.
Meanwhile, Papa Smurf, aka Owain, found himself a wobbly but light K1, to act as a hare to our tortoise. Little does he know that we are chasing him along the water, and one day we WILL actually catch him.
The Devizes to Westminster International Canoe Marathon is one of the most demanding open-to-all endurance events on the planet. 125 miles by kayak or canoe from Devizes along the Kennet & Avon Canal to the River Thames and down to Westminster in the heart of London.
Other than having some fun and setting ourselves a HUGE challenge, we are doing this to raise funds to purchase equipment for the 1st Southwater Sea Scouts Group to take part in more water activities.
1st Southwater Sea Scouts, the only land based sea scouts in Sussex, comprises three sections - Beavers, Cubs and Scouts - spanning ages 6 to 14 years, with a memebership of around 80 boys and girls.
