Story
In August of this year a member of our accounts team, Rachel Wilson, and her family, received some devastating news. Rachel’s father, Andrew (57), was diagnosed with an inoperable, malignant brain tumour. This type of tumour, called a Glioblastoma, is a fast moving and aggressive form of cancer and life expectancy, following diagnosis, is usually very short.
Andrew worked as a village milkman, was an active member of the parish council and his pastime was playing drums in a rock band. Over the last three months his life has changed dramatically. During this time he has undergone a gruelling six weeks of radiotherapy, travelling to Leeds and back (72 miles) every weekday for six weeks, to undergo 12 minutes of treatment. Despite this he has remained positive and determined to fully enjoy the time he has left.
Andrew and his family have also taken time to raise funds for the Yorkshire based charity Brain Tumour Research and Support. The research they are undertaking looks specifically at the migration of Glioblastoma cells into healthy brain tissues. What’s more, the research team are confident that they have discovered a drug that can stop these tumours spreading and improve patient outcomes. However, further funding is needed for this research to continue.
We at Sovereign would like to help the Wilson family in their fundraising efforts by running a ‘12 Days of Christmas Grand Raffle Draw.’
