Story
This year we are going HUGE! Sunrise Africa Relief has identified three major projects to support / sponsor this year! We have been heavily involved with supporting the school in Makale, a village north east of Lusaka, Zambia. This year, we're focusing on two projects that will impact the health and well-being of villagers in Makale and women and girls across Zambia:
- Washable Sanitary Pad Project (WaSPP): WaSPP works to help girls stay in school by providing them with much-needed washable pads, underwear, soap, zipper bag and instructions. The combination of poverty, stigmatisation of menstruation, and inadequate education has major consequences for the women of Lusaka (where we grew up), often forcing them to drop out of school. Through innovation, education and advocacy WaSPP helps women achieve independence and confidence, while enabling girls to continue their education.
- Makale Village Medical Centre: This year Sunrise Africa Relief and friends are focusing on upgrading the medical facilities and providing stores of medical supplies in Makale village. This is a huge project that requires a lot of funding. My parents have been in close communication with the project team.
In 2019 we were able to fund two grinding mills. This year, we're going to put any surplus of donations to support maintenance of the mills!
These project require a lot of financial support and so this year's physical challenge is a monster: 12 of my close friends and I will EACH cycle 10,000km by December 31st 2021.
To keep the interest growing, I'll continue to update this site with pictures and details from Makale! I will also pin the cyclists leaderboard to the page and post periodic updates and photos
