Story
Those of you that know me, know that I like to go for a "run". I do this for my own mental and physical wellbeing.
I don't run fast and I don't run far but I get up and I get out and it does me good :) The trouble comes in January when it's cold and dark and wet and slippy and...(any other excuse I can think of) I seem to lack the motivation to get up and get out.
What I needed, I thought, stupidly, was some external motivation. A Challenge!! So I decided to challenge myself to run 100Kms (outside, not on a treadmill) for CiB in January. I won't be running it all in one go but I will complete it within the month. My knackered old knees won't let me run every day so, in reality, I will have to complete the distance in just 15 days. OMG, my poor knees :(
Just to emphasise the scale of my challenge 100Kms is equal to running 2 and 1/3 marathons!!!
Aside from the personal motivation the other key driver for the challenge is to raise some much needed funds for Carers in Bedfordshire.
I have worked for CiB for almost four years now and I am still amazed at how much we do and by how many unpaid family carers we support. I am guessing that everyone reading this now will know someone that cares, unpaid, for a family member or a friend. The numbers are huge, and the complexity of need is increasing, just at a time when austerity is kicking in. We need your funds, so dig deep and give a little (or a lot) to make a huge difference to unpaid family carers in Bedfordshire.
Just remember, I'm old, I'm fat, I smoke and it'll be bloody freezing. What more of a challenge could I set myself? It's got to be worth a tenner, surely!!
