Aneeta's 100 Heartbeats for the NHS

100 Heartbeats for the NHS · 18 April 2020
I am an ill-health retired Senior Biomedical Scientist who has served in the NHS for over 20 years and I guess I'm a part time knitter now!
I suddenly came across this page by Laura Kirby-Deacon (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-england-wiltshire-52165537/laura-kirby-deacon-says-the-hearts-will-help-those-who-lose-loved-ones) and I thought 'what a brilliant idea!'.
Personally being a patient in a hospital, I understand that times like this can be tough and isolating. Many patients contracting the virus are unable to see their family and friends. So the idea of forming a connection with patients and their loved ones through the knitted hearts, is the reason I've decided to start the project.
I've set myself the challenge to produce 100 knitted hearts to donate to the NHS for COVID-19 patients and their close ones. One heart will go to the patient and one will go to their nearest and dearest.
Seeing as Captain Moore has done 100 laps and the NHS has hit 100 years...I guess 100 seems to be the magic number.
All proceeds raised will go to Barts Charity to support the amazing hospitals of the Barts Health NHS Trust (Nightingale London, St Bartholomew's, The Royal London, Mile End, Whipps Cross and Newham). Your donation will help make things better for patients and staff, by funding things like state-of-the-art equipment, innovative healthcare projects or ground-breaking medical research. Thank you for your support. Together, we can make extraordinary healthcare happen.
