Mavis was a woman who defied odds and challenged life and for that reason alone, I wanted to do something that embraced her strength and determination. In June 2012, I along with some friends will be doing the 1000TT. An event I created that will see us cycle from Turin, Italy to Tiger Bay in Wales. This is a route that will take in 1000 miles in 10 days, through 5 counties and include 4 of the Tour De France's steepest inclines. 

Even if you didn't know Mavis, please sponsor as all the money goes towards the Dumfries and Galloway Endownent Fund who use the funds to develop areas within the hosital that are not government funded. One of these areas is the Alexandra Unit where Mavis spend her last few days. 

The challenge was created in a way to repay these two great charities for the support, care and love that was provided not only to Mavis but the family.  The 1000TT cyclists hope that by raising funds for both charities that the Alexandra Unit and the MacMillian nurses are able to continue to support other patients and families in the same dignified manner.
