Story
.It was a normal Sunday at the beginning of July, with our ‘hilarious’ wats app group of eight pals catching up on the various Saturday night activities. Some had been at dinners parties; one had been on a hen, one had been to the pub and others had spent the night in with their families. But for one of us, it was the unthinkable. One of us, our very special Kiera was coming to grips with the fact that she had just been diagnosed with the dreaded C. Cancer.
It was a sobering moment, when Kiera broke the news that she
was suffering from Thyroid Cancer. The hangover fear from Saturday night paled into insignificance and our thoughts were plagued with shock, worry and sadness for Kiera. Unfortunately everyone’s
lives are impacted by cancer in some way, with the horrendous stat that one in three of us will get cancer, it is no wonder. But as a group of fairly healthy 30 something year olds, we never thought it would affect one of us, at least not at this stage of our lives.
However, after the initial shock, we pulled ourselves
together, not only to be strong for Kiera but also because Kiera is so
determined, positive and super strong, it was a bit embarrassing that she was handling the news better than we were!
Kiera has been an inspiration, she has handled this awful knock in her life with such strength, courage and focus and we are all in total admiration of her! She is one tough cookie, which Cancer is not going to get the better of!
Kiera is going to kick Cancer in the BUTT and we are going
to help her do so! We all have different lives and different commitments, but we are taking on a September challenge to raise money for Cancer Research UK to and show Kiera that we are right behind her ‘Walking All Over Cancer’.
We are each signing up for the Cancer Research UK September
‘Walk All Over Cancer’ challenge. Please help us support Kiera and raise money to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.
