Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit the Last Place on Earth Challenge $1 donation page.
We are excited to have the rare opportunity to spend 3 weeks trekking in the Sumatran jungles where we will see the work being done to protect and restore the Leuser Ecosystem.
The Leuser Ecosystem is a rich expanse of original tropical lowland rainforests, cloud-covered mountains and swampy peatlands. It is among the most biodiverse ecosystems ever recorded, and it is the Last Place on Earth where Sumatran orangutans, elephants, tigers and rhinoceros still roam free side by side.
Unfortunately, time is short in the Leuser Ecosystem, especially in the lowland rainforests and the carbon-rich peatlands. We need to take urgent action to secure the permanent protection of the priceless Leuser Ecosystem. Given the scale of the climate and biodiversity crisis, we simply cannot afford to lose the critical habitat.
Our mission is to support The Orangutan Project, a not-for-profit Australian organisation to save the Bornean and Sumatran orangutan species from extinction. TOP is working tirelessly to conserve the rainforest and reintroduce displaced orangutans into the wild.
I hope that you will be able to help by donating as little as $1. All money raised on this site goes directly to TOP. For more information about this excellent organisation, please visit www.orangutan.org.au
