About Friends of Shelby Newstead
Friends of Shelby Newstead (FoSN) children’s charity is known to many people and institutions thanks to the work it has done since it was formed in 1996.
In 1996, Shelby, daughter of David and Sally Newstead, was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma at the age of nine months. Thanks to the heroic efforts of medical staff and a nutritional dietary program Shelby survived this most fearsome of cancers and thrived. Indeed, today she is a 26 year old sophisticated young lady who just happens to be a talented artist.
So grateful were Shelby’s parents for the treatment their daughter had received that they, together with a group of close friends, decided to start a charity that would help other sick children less fortunate.
Since 1996 close to £950,000 has been raised and in 2016 the charity received a Pride of Britain award. Shelby contributes to this fundraising by offering her stunning works of art for auction at the annual Friends of Shelby Newstead ball.
Shelby’s art has been selected for the National Students awards, displayed in the Mall Galleries, London, won the John Downton award and has exhibited in the Turner Contemporary.
Shelby’s art continues to raise thousands of pounds for the charity founded in her name.
