Friends of Colin Barnfather

The 'Friends of Colin Barnfather' page has been created by a group of Colin’s friends, with the support of Colin's family.
We have all been deeply saddened by the premature passing of our loved one and friend, Colin Barnfather. Colin was our uncle, brother, colleague and friend and will be missed by many, many people. Colin touched many people’s lives, from his colleagues at Rolls Royce in to his fellow gym enthusiasts at LA Fitness in Derby. He was a keen runner and walker and his passion for travelling allowed him to visit some fantastic places – as the photo shows. When not working or keeping in shape, Colin enjoyed reading science fiction and was a keen supporter of the 126 (City of Derby) squadron of the Air Training Corps where he was able to share his experience and knowledge with local young people.
Colin left on one of his much loved hill walking adventures and sadly did not return. We are all very grateful to the people who helped to find Colin, from the Fort William police and the Lochaber Mountain Rescue team who recovered his body, to the RAF and navy helicopter crews who dropped teams in the wild.
The Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team did a fantastic job and we are grateful for their efforts in finding Colin and returning him to us. Without them we may never have known what happened to him. We also owe our gratitude to the Search and Rescue Dogs Association (Sarda), Kintail Mountain Rescue Team, the RAF team from RAF Lossiemouth and the Inverness police.
Sadly, Colin's story doesn't have a happy ending, but thanks to Lochaber Mountain Rescue, many others do. To continue to save lives and reunite loved ones the team need our support. To make a contribution to this vital and often life-saving cause, please click ‘donate now’ and give what you can.
