Story
"Do one thing every day that scares you." (1997) —Mary Schmich
Well, let me tell you...the thought of doing stand-up comedy scares the living daylights out of me!
But: There is something that scares me even MORE than the thought of standing on a stage in front of a few hundred people with the sole purpose of making them laugh. Keep reading to find out what it is ...
So, why am I taking part in 'Funny Business' Doncaster?
- Every two minutes someone in the UK is diagnosed with cancer
- More than 1 in 3 people in the UK will develop some form of cancer during their lifetime
- Cancer incidence rates in Great Britain have risen by 23% in males and by 43% in females since the mid-1970s
Most of us have been touched by cancer in some way at some point in our lives and its effects can be devastating. The work carried out by Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity, not only in the treatment and care of those affected by cancer, but also in carrying out research for the prevention and cure of cancer is invaluable. You can find more information about the work they do at this link: http://www.wphcancercharity.org.uk/our_work.html
So...what scares me even more than doing stand-up comedy for the first time in my life?
What really, truly terrifies me is the thought of not raising enough money for this wonderful charity. So, whether you're giving as an individual or as a business, please, please give as much as you can and help me not just reach, but SMASH, my minimum target of £1,000 in donations. Please also help spread the word; share this page with your friends & family and encourage them to donate, too.
Oh - and please buy tickets, too: http://wphcancercharity.org.uk/event_funny_business_doncaster.html
This will also help raise essential funds and, let's face it, it's difficult to make anyone laugh if there's nobody there. We want to give you a fantastic night out. Why not organise it with a group of friends or make it a work night out? You can have lots of laughs and help a great cause at the same time! (If a whole group of you want to come, let me know once you've booked the tickets as tables of 10 can be reserved for groups!)
Thank you for your support :)
