PRO TIP
Get creative and ask for support
Sally Smart met her “Breast Friends” during cancer treatment, who worked together to raise money by creating a series of naked calendars!
In addition to selling the calendars themselves, Sally and friends got their community involved in a few creative ways.
- Raised £32,000 for Awyr Last Goggled Cymru – Blue Sky North Wales
- 2024 JustGiving Awards finalist
- Reached 3,000% of her fundraising target
Get your donors involved by offering something meaningful in exchange for their donation – for us, people could sponsor a special date in the calendar which would be represented by a coloured ribbon. Also, I suggest choosing places with high footfall, like supermarkets, to promote your fundraising product and offer card payments to make donating easier!
- Sally Smart
PRO TIP
Make a memorable message
In memory of their son Harry, Paul and Karen Smith designed a meaningful, memorable, and challenging goal with a compelling message to inspire others.
- Raised over £64,000 for PAPYRUS
- 586 miles cycled across England and Wales
- 2024 JustGiving Award finalist
We designed our unique Wonky Heart Challenge — two non-cyclists cycling a heart-shaped route around the UK — which captured people's attention, gained media support, and helped our fundraising take off! From there, we kept donations flowing and got the community involved by sharing regular updates and celebrating milestones.

Time it right

In my fundraising, I always make sure I post an update and share my page on pay day (near the end of the month for most people). It's a fun way to remind people what I'm doing, and with something simple like, ‘instead of buying a coffee today, you could donate to my fundraiser’.
