Story
I will be attempting to score 100 netball goals every day for the next 2 weeks, to raise awareness for Jewish Women's Aid (JWA).
JWA supports Jewish women and children who have been victims of domestic abuse. I have chosen to support this charity because I feel very strongly about women and children of any age who are struggling with emotional, physical, sexual or psychological abuse. I believe that this topic should be more widely known by people, which is why I would like to raise awareness for it.
Tragically, every day, women and children face terrible trauma because of experiencing or witnessing domestic abuse. It is estimated that 1 in 4 women have suffered some sort of domestic abuse. So, there may be many women and children around us who have been abused in some way, without us being aware of it.
JWA has helped a lot with this important issue. They offer support, advice and therapy to victims, to help them gain confidence, independence and happiness. They also have a helpline for victims, arrange holidays for children and provide support for their mums. Last year, 750 women had support from JWA and over 1,000 people attended educational talks and training with them.
I hope you will be able to contribute to my netball challenge to help JWA continue with all their important activities for victims of domestic abuse.
