About Ferries Family Groups
We support and deliver peer support groups for parents and family members struggling with the stresses of life. As well as providing 'Family Groups' we also provide other social activities and training opportunities such as the Nurturing Programme (10 week parenting course) and Talking Teens (4 week course). We have a Mens group, Reading group, Stay and Play for Young Mums group, Foster & Adoptive parents group, Calm & Create mental health support group, Singing for wellbeing group, creche support for all courses and 1 to 1 crisis support.
We support families often dealing with complex and varied challenges, these including poverty, loneliness, post-natal depression, mental health issues, bereavement, domestic violence, substance dependency, lone parenthood, children with additional needs and difficult behavioural problems, teenage issues, low educational achievement and so on.
Parental mental ill-health and isolation can be caused by or create life stress and can have a significant impact on the lives of dependent children. These may include socio-economic disadvantage, marital conflict or attachment formation issues that affect emotional, social and behavioural development and can increase the risk of developing psychiatric disorders in childhood, adolescent, and later adult life. The prevention and intervention at an early stage are of great importance. FFG works to improve and maintain parental mental wellbeing improving outcomes for both adults and children.
