Transylvanian Bear Marathon · 4 June 2016 ·

The European Nature Trust (TENT) was founded in 2001 to help preserve and restore areas of wilderness and degraded habitats of Europe.

Story

I'm running my first trail marathon this summer, through the last unspoilt forest in Europe, home to wild bears (hence the name) but also wolves and other forest creatures, too. I've never been to Transylvania before, nor have I ever run a trail marathon before, but I'll be running 49(!)km through the very same forests TENT are working hard to preserve for future generations.

TENT are a small charity focused on educating local Romanian children to the importance of conserving the forests and instilling in them a pride for the natural treasure on their doorstep. I fully intend to spend my hours in Transylvania appreciating the natural beauty around me, but if that's not enough danger to entice you to donate, know that there are ACTUAL WILD BEARS AND WOLVES in these forests! Please help TENT continue to preserve this amazing natural wilderness.

The  European Nature Trust will use the money raised to help the people of Romania and to protect the wilderness. This is done by educating children with a Wild Kingdom Bus which visits schools and raises awareness about environmental issues. TENT also supports campaigns to prevent deforestation and ecological tourism projects which help the communities living around the forests to benefit from keeping them intact.
