Story
Family and friends of our dear Fatana,
As you may know, Fatana was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a form of bone marrow cancer, in May 2002 and started chemotherapy shortly thereafter at the Hong Kong Sanatorium and Hospital. In December 2002, she received her first bone marrow transplant at the Royal Free Hospital, London followed by a second transplant in July 2003. Her sister, Roxanna, was discovered to be a match, and was Fatana's bone marrow donor for the second transplant. She responded well to the transplants and to subsequent pioneering treatments. With innovative treatments such as these, coupled with her determination, faith and the continued love and support received from family and friends around the world she was able to win her battle with myeloma. In 2007, tests revealed the disease was in remission.
But, sadly, on 14 October 2011, she passed away as a consequence of the devastating effects of a brain haemorrhage suffered in February.
Over the last eight years, Fatana had become increasingly involved with the work of Myeloma UK, the only organisation dealing exclusively with myeloma. Myeloma UK relies almost entirely on voluntary donations and fundraising.
In loving memory of Fatana, we would like to suggest friends and family make a donation to the charity in lieu of sending flowers. Your donation to Myeloma UK would mean so much to Fatana and will go a long way in helping the charity continue to develop effective treatments, care and support for other myeloma sufferers, as well as their families and friends.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity.
We thank you all for your love and support.
Kindest regards,
Jeremy, Alexander and Sarah
