Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Ethiopiahope was set up by us, Angie and Mike King, in 2004/2005 following a visit to Bahir Dar, Ethiopia. We were so touched by the plight of the people we met that we felt that we had to do something. Our aim was to make the people self sufficient thus improving their quality of life. With the help of Sister Terfatu from The Daughters of Charity we set about helping to educate the children and getting the parents mainly the mothers into work. We also recognised that there was a requirement for a safe and secure home. To date the Day Care Centre has over 200 children which not only educates the children but supplies a meal each day. The project is sponsoring children in Day Care as well as children in main stream school. Over 150 simple mud houses have been built ensuring that the residents have a secure home which is cool in summer and dry when the rains come. A programme is in place to teach sewing and tailoring, each attendee follows a programme usually 6 months then once completed the project will supply a sewing machine ensuring self sufficiency. All funds raised go to the people of Bahir Dar. Ethiopiahope has zero overheads and no administration costs. Our only aim is to change the lives of these people something we see every year when we return.
